Delicious and nutritious blueberries are considered to be one of the leading “Superfruits” by researchers in Canada and the U.S. The rising awareness of the many health benefits of blueberries has caused a dramatic increase in blueberry production over the past decade.

Blueberries are an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin K, manganese and dietary fiber. The color of blueberries, from deep blue to purple, is caused by a group of flavonoids called anthocyanins, which have remarkable antioxidant power. Antioxidants have been shown to help slow down the aging process and to reduce cell damage that can lead to cancer, cardiovascular disease and loss of brain function. Blueberries have been ranked among the highest for antioxidant activity in the testing of over 100 different foods.

A 125ml (1/2 cup) serving of blueberries equals one of the 7-10 daily servings of fruits and vegetables as recommended by the Canadian Food Guide.

Delicious, wholesome blueberries are great to eat fresh out of hand, or in any of your favourite fruit recipes. They are easy to prepare – simply wash and enjoy. Look for firm, plump, dry, dark coloured blueberries with a powder blue bloom.
